Podere La Villa Wine Award

GIACOMO

March 2017

Podere La Villa, Giacomo 2014, merlot 100%, awarded a gold medal by the all female judging panel at the Sakura Wine Awards in Tokyo.

Ilaria explained, “this wine came from the only batch of grapes harvested at Podere La Villa in 2014 which was not sold to other producers. At the time of the vendemmia, I had a sudden intuition that these grapes had evolved specially in order to follow a particular destiny. These high quality merlot grapes, a rarity for the 2014 vintage, were grown in our own tiny, designated vineyard composed of only 2,000 vines. Such an excellent wine developed from these exceptional grapes that it became clear to me, this wine would have delighted my father, it was truly the wine of his legacy, and I dedicated it to him by name.”

March 2017

Bibenda (the awards arm of FIS, the Foundation of Italian Sommeliers) awarded Giacomo 2014 their highest ranking, 5 grappoli (bunches of grapes). “Giacomo” was only produced in limited bottles, obtained through a careful vinification and maturation of approximately two years, scrupulously overseen by oenologist Alessandro Cellai, as a tribute to the art of wine making and to the human depth of Ilaria’s father, Giacomo Tachis, who left an important and indelible mark on the history of Italian wine. This pure merlot is born in a territory mainly suited to the production of Chianti Classico Gallo Nero, on ridge soils benefiting from a favorable microclimate and historically endowed with agronomic qualities suitable for viticulture.

PARGOLO

January 2018

Decanter’s Steven Spurrier writes, ”The Pargolo, Chianti Classico 2013, reflecting the 80/20 vineyard plantings, shows elegant flavours, lovely texture and a lifted firm finish.
Yet the Giacomo 2015 (94 points) moves into another league: rich, vibrant and vigorous black fruits on the nose, marvellous depth on the palate with no heaviness, a touch of green spice to add freshness, and natural tannins to keep it improving in the bottle past 2025.
Says Ilaria, “The complex structure, the suppleness and the elegant tannic note is precisely what my father would have loved.”

Ilaria’s Story

"... All of this wonderful personal growth brought me to a seminal moment in 2007, the year my first son, Riccardo, was born. The birth of Riccardo, and two years later my second son Nicolo, revolutionized my professional life. From then on, I dedicated myself completely to PODERE LA VILLA ... "
